At the strategic level of Search and Rescue each State interprets the International Standards and Recommended Practices as laid out by ICAO in Annex 12 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); the Convention on Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974; and the Maritime Search and Rescue Convention (1979).
